Road check event aims to prevent commercial vehicle accidents

There are many safety protocols that American truck drivers need to adhere to in order to keep themselves and others safe. Inspections are critical to educate Arizona drivers, enforce rules and prevent commercial vehicle accidents. In order to draw attention to the many rules and regulations in place for truck drivers, the Commercial Vehicle Safety Alliance (CVSA) recognizes an international road check inspection event from May 5 to 7.

This annual event is a 72-hour, highly visible enforcement initiative. Each year, the initiative focuses on a different aspect of commercial motor vehicle safety. This year, the focus is on driver regulations. This includes drivers' adherence to regulations like annual inspection documentation and hours of service.

According to the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration (FMCSA), the top driver violation category in road checks last year was hours of service. Not only is this a critical issue to address due to prevalence, but it was also selected due to new innovations in the area of logging hours. In the United States, the electronic logging device rule is fully implemented. Safety regulators and enforcers hope to use the upcoming event to remind inspectors and operators of the importance of compliance in this and all areas.

While driver regulations are a focus for this year's international road check inspection event, other things will be included. For example, the inspection will examine the vehicle's mechanical fitness. It is incumbent upon all drivers, not only leading up to the event but throughout the year, to care for their vehicles and have proper documents for the inspectors. These details may also be relevant if commercial vehicle accidents take place; it is a good idea to speak with an Arizona lawyer in the case of a collision or any similarly legally challenging event.
